Can I audition for the company?
All Rice students are able to audition. Dance experience is not required but encouraged. We accept students who can pick up choreography and are eager to learn.
what types of dance do we learn?
You can find our semester class schedule on our Home page, but our classes regularly include ballet, jazz, modern, and contemporary with some fun extras like burlesque or hip hop.
are there any company dues?
Our members pay dues of $20 each semester. Our instructor expenses are not covered by the Club Sport fund, so our dues go towards hiring the best guest instructors and choreographers for the semester.
what do we do besides dance?
RDT holds social events for members of the company every semester to further connect with one another. We also collaborate with the Rice community at service events.
What style will be at the audition?
Auditions have components of warm-up, across-the-floor technique, and 2-3 combos in various styles. There is an optional ballet combo, and required contemporary and jazz combos.
what types of dance do we perform?
Students can choreograph in any style they want. We love to feature all different styles of dance for our showcase ranging from classical ballet to tap to sassy jazz.
what's the time commitment?
Members are required to attend our two technique classes per week. Members must also attend their weekly rehearsals for the choreographed pieces.
how are we different from dance team?
Rice Owls Dance Team is a spectacular opportunity for students to dance in an athletic event setting. The dance team performs at sporting events and a spring showcase in mostly jazz and hip hop styles.
